Mia and a Compliment

Earlier this evening I was telling Joy that she is so lucky to have some of the sweetest girls as sisters. Then in walked Mia and Leila. And I told them what I had just told Joy. Mia in all seriousness asked, "Who are they?" Then Leila jokingly asked if she was sweet or not sweet. I told her that she probably would taste salty from sweat but that she was sweet inside. Mia reflected on this and told us that a friend had told her that if you got an owie and licked it that it tastes yummy! That's kind of gross in itself but sure made me chuckle inside. I am still wondering if Mia ever understood the compliment that was granted to her. Oh well... she never has been one to soak up compliments anyway... she's her own girl. Clever little thing too.

Joy's First Walk

While the rest of the gang was at church today Joy and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. Joy seems to really enjoy being outside and the walk was no exception to that. She enjoyed it and then fell asleep for the rest of it.

Leila's new classroom

Leila will be going to a new school for second grade, hopefully one that she will stay at for a good long time (this is her 4th school). It is a Montessori school and we are all excited for this new adventure. The classroom looked lovely, her teacher seemed wonderful and the school inviting. She was lucky to be selected in the lottery process for this school. She starts tomorrow, so we will have more to say as the year progresses. This was taken at the open house and she was lucky to have her Grandma there to explain some of the Montessori materials in her classroom.

Sewing with Grandma

Mia helped Grandma sew some robes that I had been meaning to make for the girls since last winter. They are now done and Mia did quite well on that sewing machine. Thanks mom.

Dance Party!

These girls have rhythm and awesome dance moves. These pictures remind me of when I was a little girl and dancing to music box music at my Grandma and Grandpa Burgoyne's home in the avenues in Salt Lake City, Utah. We liked dancing as kids and so do these girls... must be genetic.

Making Grape Juice

Our neighbors gave us a big bag of concord grapes from their grape vines. The girls and Grandma made some delicious, vitamin packed grape juice. Yum!

Out for Candy... I mean frozen yogurt

We went out for frozen yogurt with Grandma for a fun family home evening treat. Mia piled as much candy as she possibly could in her cup. She was very nice to share a gummy worm with Lucy who had not yet figured out the system when she got her yogurt and chose her topping.

Leila lost her first tooth!

Leila had a loose tooth for weeks. During the announcement part of family home evening on Aug 9th Leila  announced that she had a loose tooth. A few seconds after that the tooth fell out! Yeah Leila! Then tonight when her Uncle Matt and Aunt Amy were here she lost her second tooth. She was so brave to have her dad help her pull it out... and just in time for second grade tomorrow.

Summer Success!

When we started out the summer break I was a little concerned knowing that I would be at the end of my pregnancy and therefore limited in some of the things that we could do, but here we are already at the end of break and I can not believe that it is already time for Leila to go back to school. The summer has flown by and we have had a lot of fun. We have bonded more as a family and are living a little more simply and happily. Here are some of the things that we got to do this summer:

Swenson Family Reunion in Oregon. Mick and Jessica got married. 2 family camping trips. 1 Father daughter camping trip. Pool Parties at friends' homes. Swimming Lessons. A magic show. Splash Park. Library. Zoo. Playgrounds. Movie Nights. A visit from Great Grandpa Burgoyne and Rayma. Playdates with friends. Visits from Matt, Amy and Todd. Visit from Nate, Heidi, Kezia, Ivy and Elysse. Visit from Grandma Burgoyne. Joy was born. Visits to the donut shop by our house. Pool with Grandma. Lots of adventures with Grandma. Leila lost her first tooth. It's been a lot of fun.

This morning as I was tidying up a bit I realized that I had not heard the girls in a while and was squealing with delight to see how nicely they were all playing. These girls have been so patient, wonderful, helpful, sweet, joyful girls this summer. It has been a simply wonderful summer.
