31...almost
Tomorrow is my thirty-first Birthday. We had a great time at the circus last night to celebrate and that was a lot of fun. Here are my thoughts on the past year.
It's a funny thing making it into the 30's. Life has seemed to speed up a notch even though I feel that I have "slowed down" a lot. Wasn't it just last week that I was coming home from my massage on my 30th B-day to be met at my home for a facial? My perspective of time is really changing. A couple of months ago as I stood in line for Star Tours at Disneyland I explained to my nephew that the ride makes you feel like you are really moving fast on a space ship when in actuality it just stays in place. The last time that I went on this ride was when it first came out when I was a little girl. You can imagine my shock when I heard the kid in his early twenties that stood behind me say that "this ride is so 80's that it is funny". I guess it's not so high tech anymore. I still have to do the math when I hear that a car is from 1996 (my H.S. graduation year) and realize that it is 13 years old and not a farely new car. My little cousins are coming home from missions and are the ones that are graduating college now. I walked into Claire's Boutique today and felt extremely out of place. Strange, strange, strange.... and I am sure it will get even stranger as time goes on.
But luckily, even though time has sped up in a way, I feel that I am slowing down a lot and enjoying life more fully. My thoughts on this year:
My love for nature and this beautiful Earth that we live in has grown. There are so many gorgeous varieties of flowers- some have a smell and some do not. Some are more intricate and delicate than others. They are all gorgeous. I love bees and that they are busily making honey. I love birds that add a beautiful soundtrack to life. A song playing in the background to constantly pull us back to the very moment that we are in. They sing a beautiful song. Fluffy beautiful white clouds against a blue background is still almost too much for me to take in entirely- it is magnificent. It seemed that there were more butterflies this spring then there ever were before. I love that Mia always can find a lady bug hidden outside. Even spiders have become amazing little critters. Seeing all of the stands at the Farmer's Market flowing with peaches, apricots, cherries, nectarines, plums.... is sweeter than any candy shop around.
The force of the Sun has also astonished me this year. I am amazed at how the Sun can instantly bring my spirit up. I can be having a hum drum day and then I walk outside and feel the sun warm up my skin and the heat from the pavement seep into my feet and energy is instantly transmitted to me. As I hang the laundry in the sun I am still amazed how quickly the sun can dry our clothing and how it can bleach stains right out.
This year my love and understanding of family has grown. I wake up in the morning loving my husband even more than I did the morning before. I see him as an individual, as a friend, as a partner that has chosen to do what he does every day- loves me and his family and the human race. He sees his role as husband and father as very important, yet he still likes to have fun. He works hard and loves well. I see my role as a wife and mother more clearly. I am to love and respect my family. To treat them with kindness and tenderness instead of bossing or controlling or any of those other traits that too often occur in a family. I hope I am doing better in this realm. I feel a mother daughter relationship with my daughters, but I also feel kind of a sisterly relationship too. I feel deeper that we really are sisters and that Heavenly Father has entrusted these sweet beautiful girls in our care. They will only be in our home a short time and I am savoring it.
I have become a true believer in minimalistic living. With all of the responsibilities that I have I had to change something even more. This past year we worked on our living space. We ridded our selves of things that we honestly did not have the time and energy to take care of. We have gotten rid of a lot of "visual distractions" that got in the way of our doing things that we really wanted to do.
I do not ask for material goods, but I do hope for another year filled with forgiveness, love, peace and tenderness. That to me is worth more than all of the material goods in this world.
